Kopi Summer Mini Megatour

Backstage Records' most underground coffeehouse band, Kopi Luwak, is kicking off a big mini-tour across Estonia this week. They’ll be performing in both cities: Tallinn and Tartu. While devoted fans and critics have pointed out that there are more cities and venues in Estonia, Kopi Luwak’s management reassures them with a rhetorical question: "Who asked?"

Day One of the Tour

It’s a cloudy summer day, 25 degrees Celsius (according to yr.no), and in the heart of Tallinn, at Vabaduse Square, the prestigious jazz club Philly Joe’s is finally opening its doors to change. Every week, you can listen to tastefully curated live music there, as artists from both Estonia and abroad grace the stage. This has helped Philly Joe’s establish a strong presence in the Estonian music scene, attracting a loyal 15-member customer base—people who claim they like jazz music. But even the coldest places warm up eventually, and love grows with age. This Thursday, August 15th, the jazz club will resonate with youthful indie sounds. If anyone wonders what "youthful" and "indie" mean, we don’t know either, but hipsters abroad use these terms to describe music that isn’t technical and is full of reverb. The concert starts at 9:00 PM, but since tickets are practically sold out (we speculate), it’s a good idea to arrive early to find a seat and dull your critical senses with your first drink. After the concert, we encourage everyone not to rush off, as the night is still young and August gifts us with the last of the tropical degrees.

Day Two of the Tour

The morning begins with arguments and logistical problems. The continuing cloudy weather doesn’t help. There’s no money in alternative music, and money would make people happy. Still, they bravely say, "Come on, let's do it, it’ll be a great gig," with the underlying thought, "Come on, let's do it, one last gig with them and I’m free." We drive, we drive for hours, and we arrive in the European Capital of Culture 2024. Our concert isn’t part of this program and will be overshadowed by other events. No worries, because we’re not doing this alone. We’re joined by the emotion-laden trio Moonbug. When people in the music industry say you need to stand out, Moonbug took it too seriously, as their trio features a zither and electronics, accompanying introspective, depressive poetry. Perfect music if you want to spend the last days of summer on the romantic Toomemägi hill in Tartu. The venue is Ula Bar, and if you’ve wandered the slopes of Toomemägi before, you might have stumbled into that valley. This concert is special for one reason: it’s free. Ula Bar offers a pleasant outdoor setting and a good drink menu. The concert starts at 8:30 PM with Moonbug, followed by a relaxed performance from Kopi Luwak.

The management of Kopi Luwak warmly invites you to attend the concerts:
